So, you want to eat better, feel better right? Well one way to certainly help your cause is to include what is often referred to as “Zero calorie” foods, or Negative calorie foods.

These foods use more calories than they contain to digest them, hence the "negative calorie food" labels.
We have listed below foods that fit the Negative Calorie description:

Asparagus- Ok, a personal favorite, this vegetable has a good taste to it, and also contains a large amount of an amino acid called Asparagine, which acts as a natural diuretic.
Apples- A great snack food, high in fiber, so this helps fill you up and curb your hunger pangs. As the old saying goes, an Apple a day will keep the doctor away!
Broccoli- This vegetable contains a very good dose of Vitamin C and Vitamin K. Should be a staple of any good nutritional plan.
Cabbage- A leafy, green vegetable that is loaded with vitamins and minerals. An average 3.5 oz serving contains, 37.5 Milligrams of Vitamin C, and 109 Micrograms of Vitamin K.
Carrots- Taste great, and can be eaten raw or cooked. Great deal of both Vitamin A and Vitamin C are contained in carrots. They are also known to help lower cholesterol levels.
Cauliflower- Is a great source of both Vitamins C ( 44.3 milligrams- which is about 75% of your daily recommended allowance) and Vitamin K (13 Micrograms). It also has a good deal of cal
Celery- Ok, maybe not the best tasting on this list. Pretty bland, made up of water, sodium and some trace minerals. This is something that can be added occasionally as a snack, especially in a time crunch.
Cucumbers- This food contains a high water content, making it a great choice for anyone watching their weight. It also is a high source of Vitamin K( 16.4 micrograms), which is 21% of your daily recommended allowance. It also is a good source of Vitamin C.
Garlic- Very high in manganese( 1.7 milligrams- 84% of your recommended daily allowance)and selenium. It also has a good amount of Vitamin B6 and Calcium.
Grapefruit- An average grapefruit has about 9 milligrams of Magnesium and 12 milligrams of calcium. Simply put this is a great healthy food item to incorporate into your daily menu.
Lemons- A good cross section of vitamins, but most known for the high Vitamin C content. Almost 53 milligrams which is almost 90% of your daily recommended allowance.
Lettuce- Contains a good amount of water. Typical 3.5 oz serving has 95.6 grams of water. Also high in Vitamin K, with 24.1 milligrams in each serving. This is about 30% of your daily recommended allowance.
Mangos- Believe it or not, this is the worlds most popular fruit. It is loaded with Vitamin C and is a great source of numerous other vitamins. Sugar content is about 13.7 grams in a typical serving.
Onions- A good amount of calcium contained in each standard serving. Also loaded with potassium.
Spinach- You know why Popeye loved this right? A huge amount of Vitamins A, C, K, B6, B2 and calcium, Iron and Potassium. This is really a food you need to include as a staple of your nutritional plan.
Tomatoes- Widely recognized for their outstanding antioxidant content. The key is their rich concentration of lycopene. In recent studies this has been linked to having a very positive impact on your bone health.
Turnips- A good blend of vitamins and minerals in this vegetable. Most notable a heavy dose of Vitamin C.
Watermelon- This fruit has been shown to help with health issues from lowering blood pressure, to assisting in cleansing of your kidneys. The antioxidants are also believed to help prevent heart disease. It is also high in water content and can help flush out toxins that cause bad skin.
Zucchini- A good tasting vegetable that is extremely heavy on Vitamin A.
The calories on all these food included in our negative calorie food list are very minimal, but it is important to note that except for foods that have been designed to be calorie free (sugar substitutes) all foods contain some calories. The calorie counts on these foods are minimal but not zero.
Foods like fruits and vegetables are very dense in nutrients compared to their relative caloric count.
Keep in mind, you need to ensure you are getting enough protein in your diet and you are not starving your body of enough fuel to operate at maximum capacity.
By adding these so called Zero calorie foods you will be getting a great source of vitamins, nutrients and other minerals. You can add vegetables to each meal and try to include fruit as your snack versus eating some type of processed foods.
